The star aniseed (Illicium verum) is a native herb of Southern China. It has been used for culinary and medical purposes in the Far East for a long time. Nowadays it is grown primarily in Kuanghszi Csuangban. The fruits harvested between March and May give a significant percentage of the world's star aniseed supply. Due to recent pharmaceutical research results, it is applied as agent of important concoctions. Shikimic acid, an agent of star aniseed, can be found in products preventing and treating flu.
